Classes

Green Pear founder and well-know scrapbook personality, Kari Hansen, is available to teach classes and seminars. Following are descriptions of the exciting classes she is currently teaching, based on her new book, The Scrapbook Designer's Workbook. These classes can be taught separately, but also work well together to form a scrapbook design-based workshop seminar. Please contact greenpear@greenpear.com to inquire about booking Kari to teach at your store or event.

Color Chemistry #1: Intro to Color Theory
As a scrapbook artist, what do you have most in common with master painters like Van Gogh and Matisse? The answer is color! Let Kari Hansen, former Memory Makers craft editor and author of The Scrapbook Designer’s Workbook, take you on a crash course in color theory to understand this most valuable design element. Learn about the primary, secondary and tertiary colors that together create the classic color wheel. Practice the color recipes that create tints, shades and tones with hands-on color-mixing. During class you will create your own fantastic color wheel on hang-able canvas to use as a reference at home.
All skill levels welcome. Combination lecture/project class format.

Color Chemistry #2: Classic Color Schemes
What is the most powerful part of a designer’s tool box? Color, of course! Kari Hansen, former Memory Makers craft editor and author of The Scrapbook Designer’s Workbook, will show you how to put color theory into practice by using easy, fool-proof color schemes, such as Complementary, Analogous and Triadic, on your layouts. Become color-scheme savvy as you learn color properties like value, intensity and temperature. Develop your own color intuition as you discover how to personalize and successfully execute color combinations. Make a color scheme tag book that you can use over and over again when choosing color palettes for your pages.
All skill levels welcome. Combination lecture/project class format.

Color Chemistry #3: Color Language
Have you ever wondered why the ribbon tied round the old oak tree is yellow? Or why red is always coupled with Valentine’s Day? The answers can be found in the language of color. Explore the cultural meanings and psychological associations inherent in color and learn how to use these connections effectively in design. Create a color language tag book, to be used as a guide for picking the perfect colors for every project. Join Kari Hansen, former Memory Makers craft editor and author of The Scrapbook Designer’s Workbook, for a fun and informative investigation into the mysteries of color symbology.
All skill levels welcome. Combination lecture/project class format.

Texture Talk Show
Texture can add dimension and visual interest to a design, but did you know that textures can also produce an emotional response? Think about how you feel about certain textures: Why does bunny fur elicit petting while a snake’s skin usually incites repulsion? Why do some smooth surfaces feel sleek while others feel sterile? Kari Hansen, former Memory Makers craft editor and author of The Scrapbook Designer’s Workbook, will teach you how to use texture to create mood and support the story of your layouts. Become fluent in texture talk through a fun interactive lecture, then create a unique tactile layout.
All skill levels welcome. Combination lecture/project class format.
